G. Whitney Leigh is a native of Chicago, Illinois. He received his Bachelor
of Arts degree from Hope College in Holland, Mich., in 1987 where he majored
in history and political science. He was the Editor of the Hope College
Anchor and was awarded the Wendell Miles Writing Award his senior year.
In 1990 he received his Juris Doctor degree from Stanford Law School. Mr. Leigh was a member of the Stanford Law Review, President of the Black Law Student’s Association and active with the National Lawyer’s Guild. Following law school, Mr. Leigh joined the law firm of Jackson, Tufts,
Cole & Black before joining the Santa Clara Public Defender’s
Office in 1991. From 1993 to 1999 he worked as a trial attorney with
the San Francisco Public Defender’s Office where he represented
adults and juveniles charged with serious felonies and handled over
fifty jury and court trials. In 2001-02 Mr. Leigh was appointed by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors to serve on the Juvenile Justice Advisory Committee. Mr. Leigh has previously served on the San Francisco Bar Association Lawyer Referral Committee and currently serves on the San Francisco Bar Association Judiciary Committee.
